More than 30 people were arrested including European parliamentarians during attempted Moscow Gay Pride march that ended up with violent attacks from neo-Nazis and orthodox priests.
Russian riot police used force to stop the demonstration organized by gay activist who wanted to address Moscow mayor with petition who earlier banned the Gay Pride.
Hundreds of skinheads hurled eggs and stones at gay activists screaming:"Death to homosexuals" as police was silently watching the attacks. German MP Volker Beck, Italian MEP Marco Capatto and British gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell were beaten and detained by the police. After Peter Tatchell was released he told that police was humiliating him together with three other anti-gay demonstrators as they found he was a member of sexual minority.
There are people who were seriously injured during the demonstration, bleeding and asking for help while none of the police officers reacted. A petition signed by 50 MEPs was meant to appeal for human rights and their respect. The organizer of Moscow Gay Pride Nikolai Alekseev was arrested while those who attacked him were released.
Mr Tatchell told PinkNews:"There is no rule of law in Moscow. The right to protest does not exist. This is not a democracy."The chairwoman of Germany‛s Green party Claudia Roth resented saying that the violent event proved that human rights are often abused in Russia.
